About Haven Robotics
Haven Robotics is a construction robotics company that builds an on-site measure-and-cut machine for fiber-cement and engineered-wood siding, made for residential siding subcontractors.
What Haven Robotics does
The cutter
A sensor tripod sets up on the jobsite and measures the wall as it was actually framed. A cutting table next to it cuts each piece to length as the tripod reads the wall. Your crew feeds stock in and pulls finished pieces off.
Cut to the manufacturer's tolerance
The target is ±2 mm on every cut. That holds the install tolerances for James Hardie and LP SmartSide lines, so trim fits, butt joints close, and courses line up.
Labeled pieces, in install order
Each piece comes off the table labeled by wall and course, in the order it goes on the house. Installers hang siding instead of walking to a saw.
Where it goes next
The cutter is machine one. We're building toward a robot that installs the siding too.
What makes Haven Robotics different
Today a crew measures each wall by hand, calls measurements out, and one experienced installer cuts at a miter saw or cut station. Here is what changes.
It measures the wall, not the plans
Framing never matches the blueprints exactly. Walls can be off by half an inch from top to bottom. The tripod reads the wall that's actually there, so cuts fit the house you're siding.
The newest guy on the crew runs it
Cutting no longer depends on your most experienced installer. The operator doesn't read plans or call out measurements. The machine does both.
30 to 40% faster installs
When nobody on the crew measures or cuts, installs run 30 to 40% faster. The machine cuts faster than a crew hangs, so it can stay ahead of the wall.
Fewer miscuts, less wasted stock
A miscut costs a board and the time to cut it again. The machine cuts from its own wall measurement, so there's no misread tape or called-out number to get wrong.
A tool for your crew, not a replacement
The operator is your guy. Your installers keep doing the work they're best at, and the cutting comes off their plate.
Who Haven Robotics is for
- Residential siding subcontractors who install fiber-cement or engineered-wood lap siding.
- Crews working James Hardie and LP SmartSide lines, where cut tolerance affects the warranty.
- Companies running 1 to 4+ crews in new construction or re-side work.
- Contractors on Utah's Wasatch Front first, with other states to follow.
The team behind Haven Robotics
Joshua Matheson, founder and engineer
Josh is an electrical engineer with a background in embedded systems, signal processing, and machine learning. Before Haven he built computer-vision and acoustic-detection products. He designs the machine. Josh on LinkedIn
Vin Jones, sales and partnerships
Vin runs sales, partnerships, and all other non-engineering tasks. This includes calling siding contractors, visiting jobsites, and setting up time studies. He's currently finishing his schooling at BYU's Marriott School of Business. Vin on LinkedIn
How it started
Josh founded Haven Robotics in May 2026 in the BYU/USU Sandbox fellowship in Provo, Utah. It started as a roofing idea. A siding company branch manager who knew Josh told him to look at siding instead. Since then we've interviewed more than 20 Utah siding contractors and run time studies on live jobsites.
How working with Haven Robotics works
- Talk to Josh directly. Email joshua.matheson.sandbox@gmail.com or book 15 minutes.
- Book a paid pilot. We bring the machine to one of your jobs, run it with your crew, and hand you a report of the labor time it saved. The pilot fee is non-refundable and counts toward a lease. The first round has ten pilot slots.
- Lease a machine for 12 months. We run it on your first jobs, then train your operator and stay on call. Any downtime is added to the end of your lease.

Frequently asked questions
Can I buy a machine today?
Not yet. The first ten pilot slots are open now. After a pilot, you can lease the machine for 12 months.
Does it work from blueprints?
No. The tripod measures the as-built wall on site, because framing rarely matches the plans.
Where does the cutting happen?
On the jobsite, next to the house. The tripod and cutting table set up outside the wall you're siding.
What siding does it cut?
Fiber-cement and engineered-wood lap siding, including James Hardie and LP SmartSide lines.
Does it replace my installers?
No. It takes measuring and cutting off the crew. Your installers still hang the siding, and one of your guys runs the machine.
What will it cost?
We quote it on a call. The pilot fee is non-refundable and counts toward the lease.
